Modern jazz is a category of various traditional jazz styles of dancing. Incorporating elements of modern, contemporary dances, namely fast tempo, mid-performance improvisation, adapting to the rapidly increasing pace, and so on, are some of the characteristic markers of modern jazz. Borrowing from and fusing various related, especially closely related styles, like Hip Hop, voguing, technical jazz, lyrical jazz, and popping and locking, helps borrowers build strength and muscle flexibility of the body, peer and musical coordination, and expressiveness, adapting to the rhythm. At The Shenvi School of Dance, we teach right from basics, like extensions of the arms and legs, swirls and twists, leaping and so forth. As the module progresses, energy allocation and management during performance and accuracy in movement with balanced development of personal styles is what we focus on.
